Meet Our New Engineering Design Apprentices Beth and Jack
Applied Integration of Stokesley, North Yorkshire have recently recruited two new apprentices through our sister company Automation Talent Recruitment (ATR).
Introducing Jack Greenan and Beth McCarthy Applied Integration’s new Engineering Design and Draughtsperson apprentices.
Jack Greenan
Jack’s previous work before joining the AI team involved working in the HVAC sector, specifically the installations and maintenance of commercial heating and cooling systems. Jack first completed a BTEC and a degree in sport and exercise science at Teesside University, studying areas such as biomechanics, psychology, physiology, and sociology.
“I chose this educational path as I have always had a keen interest for sport and therefore saw it as a fitting subject to study”, says Jack, Applied Integrations newest engineering design apprentice. “I decided to choose the apprenticeship route as I was completely switching my career path and wanted to efficiently gain crucial industry experience along with the relevant qualification for my role”.
“I found out about the vacancy through the governments 'find an apprenticeship' page online, from there I applied and was successful in the recruitment process”.
“The advertisement for the apprenticeship interested me hugely as the area of engineering design has always been appealing to me and something I personally thought I would suit. The automation sector is something I believe to be rapidly progressing and future facing, therefore I believe it is a great sector to work within”.
Jack’s Engineering design and draughtsperson apprenticeship at Applied Integration mainly focuses on the mechanical design of projects, concentrating on the conceptualisation and drawing of mechanical components and processes involved within the automated solutions AI provides.
“I'm thrilled to have joined AI and the thing I'm most looking forward to during my time here is developing as a mechanical design engineer, improving my capabilities within this role and gaining experience within the automation industry”.
Beth McCarthy
Before Beth began her apprenticeship at Applied Integration, she studied sports coaching at Askham Bryan College in York whilst also working part time in ASDA. Beth chose to focus on sport at college as it was her main interest throughout her life and therefore concentrated heavily on football and athletics. Whilst studying at college, Beth played football for Leeds United Sports College Women’s team and even had the opportunity to play in Doha, Qatar, representing and promoting women in football in the build-up to the world cup.
“After college, I began a sports coaching and development foundation degree but due to my dyslexia I found this difficult to complete without the support that I needed and therefore chose to seek an apprenticeship so that I could be more hands on”, says Beth, Applied Integrations electrical and mechanical design and draughtsperson apprentice.
Beth found the apprenticeship vacancy through the governments apprenticeship page and applied that way. “I chose the apprenticeship route as I am a very practical learner and I succeed best in an environment where I can have 1 to 1 support. Everyone at AI has been very understanding and have given me guidance whenever I have needed it. “I didn't like the school learning environment of been in a classroom situation, so this apprenticeship is perfect as it’s the best fit for me!”.
Beth is completing an Electrical and Mechanical design and draughts person apprenticeship with the company focusing on projects for Applied’s FMCG and chemical clients. Beth is working alongside Simon who is mentoring her with the electrical design process. This has included working individually on the draw assembly, completing and finalising the design and re design if a customer has any scope changes. “This has been a great insight to how projects work start to finish and has given me an understanding into the challenges that can arise along the way and how these are resolved”.
“I chose this apprenticeship as I enjoyed engineering as a subject at school and wanted to do something that I had an interest in. Once I looked into the company and what a design and draughtsperson’s does, it sounded amazing so I applied with barely any previous knowledge but I was extremely keen to learn”.
“I am looking forward to all the opportunities this apprenticeship and AI will provide for me, and to be fully qualified as a design and draughtsperson to hopefully maintain a career within AI after my apprenticeship. I'm also looking forward to going back to a new college one day a week in September to help complete my course where I will expand my knowledge even further”.
